Under the leadership of the Arkadagly Hero Serdar, Independent and Permanent Neutral Turkmenistan is actively developing cooperation with the international community. One of the key areas of this international partnership is cooperation with UNESCO — the specialized agency of the United Nations for education, science, and culture.
Within the framework of cooperation with UNESCO, the ancient historical monuments located in our country have gained wide recognition at the global level. Such great cultural centers as Merv, Kunya-Urgench, and the Parthian Fortresses have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This step contributes not only to the preservation of our historical values but also to their transformation into the common heritage of all humankind. In addition, elements of intangible cultural heritage such as the Turkmen carpet, the dutar, and the art of the bakhshi have taken their rightful place on the UNESCO list.
Turkmenistan also actively participates in UNESCO’s educational programs, attaching special importance to the modernization of the education system. Fruitful work is being carried out to improve the knowledge level of youth, to train specialists at the international level, and to introduce digital technologies into the education sector.
Special attention in cooperation with UNESCO is devoted to environmental issues, including the rational use of water resources, the protection of biodiversity, and the development of scientific research. In all these areas, mastering international experience and applying it in national development plays an important role for our country.
The principles of peace and trust put forward by Turkmenistan at the international level fully correspond to UNESCO’s core mission, contributing to the strengthening of friendship and cooperation between cultures.
The development of our country’s cooperation with UNESCO promotes the popularization of national cultural heritage worldwide, the expansion of opportunities for the younger generation in science and education, and the assurance of peaceful progress.
