Based on the legal status of neutrality, the valuable political experience of independent Turkmenistan in building relations with the states of the world and authoritative international organizations on the principles of friendship, mutual trust and equal cooperation in the interests of world peace, global security and sustainable development contributes to maintaining stability in the region and in the world and developing effective cooperation.
The foreign policy initiatives of Turkmenistan which consistently adheres to the principles of permanent neutrality are aimed at strengthening peace, preventing conflicts, promoting mutual understanding in international cooperation not only in the world but also in the region, and protecting bilateral and multilateral interests. At a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers which held in digital format on August 29, 2025 declared the year of international peace and trust, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov noted that in order to strengthen mutual trust between the peoples of the world, Turkmenistan proposes to hold an international forum with UNESCO and the Union of Civilizations under the auspices of “Central Asia - a Space for Building a Peaceful Life”, including a global summit on the culture of peace, trust and mutual respect. Following this summit will be adopted a “Code of International Trust”, which will form the basis of the principles of joint resolution of issues of cooperation between the world and states.
Peace and trust are the most valuable concepts that are inextricably linked to ensure a prosperous future for humanity, and they are currently becoming the main principles of cooperation and development between states and peoples.
Adhering to the principle of neutrality Turkmenistan guided by the doctrine of “Dialogue is the guarantee of peace” makes a significant contribution to the peaceful development of international relations, ensuring universal security and sustainable development. The election of the country as Vice-Chairman of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, the unanimous adoption by the UN General Assembly, at the initiative of Turkmenistan of the resolutions “2025 – Year of International Peace and Trust” and “Central Asia – Zone of Peace, Trust and Cooperation” confirm to the trust of the countries of the world in our country, to the success of the foreign policy strategy of our Hero Arkadag, our Hero Arkadagly Serdar, to the efforts aimed at further strengthening the economic power of our beloved Motherland to equal and mutually beneficial initiatives.
The formation of a zone of peace in Central Asia became possible thanks to the institutional and legal framework for multilateral cooperation created by the countries of the region. If we recall the historical events that have taken place in this region in recent years, we can highlight the signing of the Treaty on the Establishment of a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia in 2006, as well as the establishment of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in Ashgabat in December 2007.
Based on the proposal submitted to the Esteemed President, Turkmenistan under the auspices of UNESCO and the Union of Civilizations will hold the International Forum “Central Asia – a Space for Building a Peaceful Life”, which will include a global summit on the culture of peace, trust and mutual respect, and following the summit a “Code of International Trust” will be developed, which will form the basis of the principles of jointly resolving issues of interaction between the world and states will contribute to strengthening cooperation between UNESCO and Turkmenistan, and further enhancing the peacekeeping role of our country in the region.
