CULTURAL HERITAGE — THE VALUE OF THE PEOPLE

Every nation is known for its history, traditions, language and culture. Cultural heritage is the sum of the spiritual and material values created by a people over millennia. It is the spiritual bridge connecting a nations past, present, and future. Therefore, preserving and passing on cultural heritage to younger generations is of particular importance for preserving a nations identity.

The cultural heritage of the Turkmen people is rich and diverse. Carpet weaving, jewelry, music, folklore and national traditions created by our ancestors reflect the creative talent of our people. Every pattern of a Turkmen carpet, the melody of a folk song, and legends reflect the courage, life experience, and national worldview of our people.

Ensuring the protection of cultural heritage is a key priority at the state level. Turkmenistan creates extensive opportunities for the preservation, study and dissemination of cultural assets. Through cooperation with UNESCO, a number of Turkmen treasures have been included in the World Heritage List of tangible and intangible heritage. This clearly demonstrates the global recognition of the rich spiritual world of our people.

Cultural heritage remains of paramount importance today in the spiritual development of society and in nurturing youth in the spirit of patriotism, hard work and humanism. Cultural heritage is the spiritual strength of a nation. Its preservation, study, and transmission to future generations is the sacred duty of every citizen. Respect for a nations past and cultural heritage is the path to its future.
