Turkmen Alabay Day is celebrated on the last Sunday of October. Alabay dogs are a national treasure, bred by our ancestors since ancient times. They are one of the oldest and most elite dog breeds, renowned worldwide. Our alabay dogs are known for their courage, bravery and devotion to their owners. Extensive work is underway in our country to preserve, breed, and improve the Turkmen alabai breed. All conditions are being created for the scientific study of the alabay dogs breed’s history and its characteristics.
Along with our Akhalteke horses and exquisite carpets, whose history spans thousands of years, the Turkmen alabais are among the national treasures of the Turkmen people. Our country is working to include the national tradition of alabai breeding in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
In honor of Turkmen Alabay Day, cultural events, festive concerts, exhibitions, and award ceremonies for professional dog breeders are held in our country. This holiday demonstrates the importance of widely promoting the Turkmen Alabay dog worldwide and developing its breeding traditions.
