TURKMEN SAMBO WRESTLERS WON TWO MEDALS ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP-2025 IN BISHKEK

Turkmenistan won one silver and one bronze medal on the first day of the world sambo championship, which started in Bishkek (Kyrgyz Republic).

The tournament is taking place at the «Gazprom for children» sports and recreation complex, bringing together 466 top sambo wrestlers of the world from 70 countries. Over three days, they will compete for 31 medal events in sport and combat sambo, as well as sambo for the blind.

The total prize fund for the World Championship is 341 thousand USA dollars. Winners in each weight category will receive 4 thousand USA dollars, silver medallists 3 thousand USA dollars, and bronze medallists 2 thousand USA dollars.

On the first day of competition, Turkmen athletes excelled in combat sambo. In this discipline, the silver medal was won by 31-year-old coach-teacher of the 1st sports school of the city of Turkmenabat of the Main department of physical culture and sports of the Lebap velayat Madina Aydogdyyeva, while the bronze medal went to 25-year-old fourth-year student of the Institute of the Ministry of internal affairs of Turkmenistan, Abdylla Nazargeldiyev.

Madina became the vice-champion of the world in the 54 kg weight category, where eight sambo wrestlers competed for the medals. In her first bout at the quarterfinal stage, M. Aydogdyyeva defeated Gulmaira Sagidanova (Kazakhstan), and in the semi-finals, she defeated Akak Uson Kyzy (Kyrgyz Republic) 2-1. In the final, our compatriot lost 0-8 to two-time world champion Vera Lotkova of Russia, who competed as a neutral under the auspices of the International sambo federation (FIAS1). Ultimately, M. Aydogdyyeva settled for second place, while the bronze medalists were Abomo Silvana (Cameroon) and Kyrgyz athlete Akak Uson Kyzy.

This is not first major success of Madina Aydogdyyeva at the international competitions. Last year, at the Asian and Oceanian championships in Macau, she won bronze in sport sambo (up to 59 kg), and this year, at the World cups in Armenia and Tajikistan, she won silver and gold medals, respectively, in combat sambo (up to 59 kg).

Abdylla Nazargeldiyev won bronze in the 88 kg weight category, where 17 sambists competed for the medal. On his way to this success, he defeated Leko Terpstra (Netherlands) 8-0 in the round of 16, and defeated Lkhagvasuren Tovuusuren (Mongolia) 4-0 in the quarterfinals. In the semi-finals, our compatriot lost to 2025 World championship silver medallist Sohibjon Hasanboyev (Uzbekistan) 0-5, settling for third place. The second bronze medal went to 2025 European championship vice-champion Giorgiy Egnatashvili (Georgia), and gold went to Abusupian Alihanov of Russia (FIAS1), who won the World Championship for the second year in a row.

Remarkably, two months ago, Abdylla Nazargeldiyev won a bronze medal in combat sambo at the World cup in Tajikistan. Now, he has achieved the same success, but this time at the World Championships.

After the first day of competition, the Turkmenistan team, with one silver and one bronze medal, is in 6th place in the overall standings.

On the second day of the World championship - 2025, sambo wrestlers will compete for 11 sets of medals.
