A turkmen carpet woven by the hands of turkmen craftswomen, brings warmth to every home. It is a symbol of blessing, abundance and craftsmanship. It is a unique work of art, striking with its beauty and elegance. The art of carpet weaving, preserved for centuries and handed down from generation to generation, from mother to daughter, is the pride of the turkmen people. The way of processing wool and thread, the process of making natural colours, the simplicity of the used tools requiring special skill and mastery of techniques, the traditional carpet weaving technique, the refinement and non-repeatability of patterns — whatever it is about, one can understand how much labour our craftswomen put into their work.
The whole world recognises the elegance of the turkmen carpet, which rivals the beauty of our nature. Antique and modern samples of turkmen carpets can be seen in museums, exhibition halls and galleries in Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, the USA, Iran, Turkey, Egypt and other countries of the world, as well as in the houses and palaces of world-famous personalities.
As is known, in December 2019, at the 14th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity held in Bogota, the capital of the Republic of Colombia, carpet art of Turkmenistan was inscribed on the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This is a vivid expression of recognition by the world community of the art of carpet weaving and beautiful carpets woven by the talented craftswomen of the country as a wonderful cultural monument.
