Turkmen freestyle wrestlers won one silver and two bronze medals at the Asian Junior Wrestling Championships under 20 that ended in Bishkek.
The silver medal went to 19-year-old first-year student of the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction Dovletgeldi Myradov. He achieved this success in the weight category up to 86 kg, in which 10 athletes competed for medals.
In the first fight, Dovletgeldi won a convincing victory with a score of 13:0 over Juhwan Lee from the Republic of Korea, then in the semi-finals he defeated the 2025 Asian Champion among cadets under 15 years old Sachin Sachin from India - 12:1, and in the final he lost to the 19-year-old winner of the adult Asian Championship 2025 in Jordan Abolfazl Yaser Rahmani Firouzjai (Iran) - 2:6 and rose to the second step of the podium. Bronze medalists in this weight category were Sachin Sachin (India) and Elnur Akybayev (Kyrgyzstan).
Two years ago, at the Asian Championship among young men under 17 years old in Kyrgyzstan, D. Myradov became a bronze medalist. And now he has won silver in an older age category - U20.
The bronze medal was won by 19-year-old first-year student of the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Construction Vatan Annaorazov. He became a prize winner in the weight category up to 74 kg, in which the title of the strongest was contested by 13 participants.
In the first two matches, V. Annaorazov did not experience any particular problems, convincingly winning over Burendjargal Batbayar (Mongolia) - 12:2 and Muhammadamin Abduloyev (Tajikistan) - 13:4. In the semi-finals, he lost to Umarhon Muydinov (Uzbekistan) - 0:10, and in the fight for bronze, he won a difficult victory over Jinpeng Zhu (China) - 5:4. The second bronze medal in this weight category went to Dosjan Kul Gayip (Kazakhstan). Silver was awarded to Uzbek wrestler Umarhon Muydinov, and gold to Mohammad Mahdi Parviz Mamivand (Iran), who won the final with a score of 11:0.
It is noteworthy that last month at the Asian Youth Championship among wrestlers under 23 in the Vietnamese city of Vung Tau, Vatan Annaorazov won bronze. And now he has achieved the same success at the junior continental championship among athletes under 20.
Our team's coaches also pinned great hopes on the performance of the current world and Asian champion in this age category, Alp Arslan Begenjov, at the U20 Asian Junior Championship. Let us remind that the 18-year-old international master of sports from Ashgabat won these titles last year at competitions in Thailand and Spain in the 79 kg weight category.
A total of 9 athletes competed in this weight category at the continental junior championship in Bishkek. In the first round, at the quarter-final stage, Alp Arslan's opponent was 19-year-old Amit Amit from India. During the meeting, the Turkmen athlete was winning on technical points with a score of 6:3. However, the Indian wrestler then made a successful move and won a clear victory, depriving our compatriot of the opportunity to fight for a gold medal.
In the fight for bronze, A. Begenjov confidently defeated Jorullo Abdufattohov (Uzbekistan) - 12:1 and rose to the third step of the podium. The second bronze medalist was Japanese Natsura Okazawa. The silver award went to the 2024 World Champion among athletes under 17 years old Abolfazl Mehdi Shamsipur Hajivand from Iran, who lost in the final with a score of 4:5 to Indian Amit Amit, who was awarded the title of Asian Champion U20 for the first time.
Earlier in June of this year, at the Asian Youth Championship (under 23) in Vietnam, first-year student of the Turkmen State Institute of Finance A. Begenjov won a silver medal in the weight category up to 79 kg.
In this way, following the results of the Asian Championship among cadets U15 and juniors U20, the national team of Turkmenistan won 5 medals - 1 silver and 4 bronze. Earlier, bronze success in the cadet tournament was achieved in freestyle wrestling by 9th-grade student of Ashgabat Secondary School № 9 Meret Durdyev (weight category up to 44 kg) and in Greco-Roman wrestling competitions by 9th-grade student of the capital's sports school «Olimp» Jeyhun Hakberdiyev (up to 52 kg).
The Asian Championship in wrestling among cadets under 15 years old and juniors under 20 years old, held in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, brought together representatives of 15 countries - India, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, China, the DPRK, the Republic of Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Taiwan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Japan.
