Every year on August 19, World Humanitarian Day is observed. This date was declared by a Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly in December 2008.
By adding this date to the international calendar, the UN aims to raise awareness about humanitarian aid efforts carried out in various parts of the world. It also highlights the importance of humanitarian principles in international cooperation and expresses respect for all personnel who have contributed and continue to contribute to this cause.
Each year, World Humanitarian Day is observed under a specific theme. Based on that theme, humanitarian partners carry out vital work to rescue those affected by crises, ensure their safety, freedom, and dignity, and protect the humanitarian workers themselves. These activities are coordinated by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
As is known, one of the priorities of Turkmenistan's foreign policy is the expansion of international cooperation. This policy, initiated by the National Leader of Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Hero-Arkadag, is now being successfully implemented by the Esteemed President Arkadagly Hero Serdar. Special attention is given to humanitarian relations. For centuries, the Turkmen people have embodied the principles of peace, good-neighborliness, and mutual assistance, which have been passed down from generation to generation.
It should be emphasized that by consistently implementing its peace-loving and positive foreign policy, Turkmenistan makes a significant contribution to the development of humanitarian cooperation both regionally and globally. This direction is an important part of international relations based on mutual understanding, respect, and trust.
